Lesson summary

VRET is an extension of traditional models such as CBT, exposure therapy and mindfulness. Exposure therapy is highly evidence-based but limited by how you access valuable exposure scenarios in a prolonged, repeated and safe way. VR lets you access situations you couldn't stage in real life, and deliver them repeatedly, at length, in a structured and controlled setting.

Key learning points

  • An extension of CBT, exposure and mindfulness
  • Overcomes access limits of traditional exposure
  • Prolonged, repeated practice in a controlled setting
