How Do You Manage Motion Sickness in Virtual Reality?

1:04

Kim Bullock, MDKim Bullock, MDClinical Professor, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Stanford School of Medicine

Lesson summary

Cybersickness affects an estimated 1–4% of clients, usually early in treatment and much like sea- or car-sickness. Start slow and titrate, adjust position and field of view, and reduce visual detail; many clients desensitise, and for the small number who don't, you simply return to your default treatment.

Key learning points

  • Who tends to experience cybersickness
  • Titrate, reposition and reduce visual detail
  • When to fall back to default treatment
